Of my many weaknesses, backyard sheds top the list.  There are so
many clever designs when it comes to gardening, storage, and work
buildings.  No longer eye sores, sheds are the new outdoor chic!

The darling little building, left, was fenced in and actually has its own garden!

What a wonderful retreat this would be - a place to escape for a good book read, a quiet cup of tea or simply to regroup in private, surrounded by nature.

The flat stone walkway to this outbuilding sets the tone for
a special treat.  The pergola extends the roof and is perfect to
hang plants or grow vines for shade.  An ideal retreat!

If you're interested in having one of these rustic retreats and
choose not to build from scratch, Lowes and other building
supply stores have a vast selection of pre-fab cuties:
Many of these buildings are available from $500 to $2,500
but some flea markets also offer outbuildings for less.

Check online vendors (Craigs List, etc.)
for used sheds that can be renovated.

Such a beautiful transformation of
a shed in pitiful condition:

Clever homeowners converted a 1930's
playhouse into a modern garden house:

A paint job and a few rustic decorative items changed this
bland building into a much more attractive potting shed:

So much better!

A rather distressed small shed was given a makeover:

From today's photos you can see how charming garden sheds can
be when 'dressed up.' Landscaping and rustic décor add personal
touches to one of the most interesting additions to a backyard.

  1. I adore them all - just like miniature homes - I could quite happily live in any one of them - keeping everything minimal - it just shows what a bit of imagination and creativity can do.

    1. They are darling and everyone is unique. A friend in Georgia actually purchased an old out-house from a local farmer, moved it onto their property and made it their potty, er, potting! shed.

    1. Me, too! As soon as we get the Boulder Garden in the backyard tamed I'm going to be on the lookout for a used shed that we can move onto our property. Another item for the Honey Do list!

  3. These are really lovely. I wonder why it took us so long to wake up to the fact that we could make sheds look pretty, a feature. We seem to have spent years trying to hide them! I am going to be pinning some of these.

  4. Hi Jan,

It is best to always get permission to use other people's images before posting them, otherwise you are in violation of copyright law. I hope you will look into this as you seem to be using a lot of images from other sources. I also sent you an email but have not heard back. I am requesting that you remove my shed images from your site. You are welcome to email me if you have any questions.
